Career Coaching
How do you
support individuals engaged in a job search?
- The first step is to clarify
career goals. Second, to make sure the
client has the right tools--those that present
him/her in the best light possible in order to
compete in a tough market. Clients are
motivated to optimize their network and make new contacts, in
addition to traditional job search channels
(e.g. newspaper ads, online postings, etc.)
Progress is measured each session, and new
tactics identified accordingly. Use of
assessment tools is on an as-needed basis, and
dependent upon client interest and comfort level
with these tools.
What is coaching?
- Coaching is a facilitative
process, and different from counseling, as it utilizes tools
and self-awareness techniques to support the
client in taking desired action and achieving
goals in a shorter time frame than ordinarily
possible alone. A career coach can help you
identify and/or chart a clear course leading you
to achievement of your career ambitions.
Does coaching really work?
- Absolutely! However,
there are prerequisites. Clients who
benefit most from coaching have a strong:
- Desire to achieve
- Desire and ability to
introspect
- Willingness to be
challenged and gently pushed
- Willingness to stare down
excuses and debilitating constraints
- Willingness to be open and
honest
- Willingness to "do the
work" in-between sessions
What are your
coaching fees?
- Coaching fees range based on
the number of sessions per month, where they
take place, what materials/assessments will be
required. On average, 2 sessions per
month are $250/month and 3 sessions
$350/month, with the average
engagement lasting between 3 and 6 months.
*Some relationships may end earlier, as
would be the case with a quick and
successful conclusion to a job search.
I would encourage anyone
interested in getting support and achieving
their goals quicker, to instead focus on the upside.
How much would a career you wholly enjoy be
worth to you? How much would the
ability to earn more be worth to you?
Coaching pays itself off over time.
Sometimes it's simply a matter of shifting
perspective. Some of us could trim the fat
from our budgets and find a ready reserve.
For example, premium
cappuccinos 2x a day for a month could easily add up to more
than the cost of a coaching relationship where I
come from. Why not invest that money into
your future instead?
What would previous
clients tell me about you?
- All of my clients who have
entered into the coaching relationship ready to "do the
work" have had positive, enlightening,
life-changing experiences as a result of our
work together. Remember, it's a
relationship--that means that both coach and
client need to be equally engaged. Coaches
do not hold the answers for your career, they
can only facilitate your process of finding
them. You can read specific feedback from
some of my clients here.
